Once the injectors are installed {REFER TO LINK ABOVE - FROM A PREVIOUS POST} they must be seated properly.
Cat makes a seating tool that will do the job preventing compression from leaking past injector seats ino the fuel system.
Go to this previous post below and get detailed information on how to seat 3116 injectors.

Hello Anonymous,
You can get the seating tool from the Caterpillar Dealer.
It's worth the cost if you're doing a lot of Cat 3116 work.

Please help, my name is jeff I am the director of helprkids foundation we have a 1997 GMC 5500 cat 3116 and after spending thousands of dollars diagnosing injector problems and replacing our mechanic now claims we need new injector cups and he doesn't have the proper tooling to seat them what I am hoping is to find some one kind enough to loan, lend, rent, or last option is selling the tools that are needed to complete this injector cup seating, we can't afford to bring truck to a caterpillar dealer. This truck is used to collect recyclable cans n bottles all for a good cause in the community. Please give me a call or email if you know of someone willing to assist us. 1-800-527-6536 or cell 203-778-5573

Jeff, We have done this seating to a few of our units. The operation was done by the Cat dealer. They have the proper tools. You can buy the tools but they are costly and you will most likely not use them again.

The time to do the job isn't more than a day's labor, I would budget to get it done by them. You also need a seating tool for the injectors as well. It's not worth it to buy tools when you can get it done for the going labor rate.

Need some help on a 3116.
Cat Dealer in our area: Mustang Caterpillar of Bryan, Tx, states that the injector cups wont leak compression into the fuel.
It has a dead cylinder on #3 cylinder, they have diagnosed it & replaced the injector.
$2500 later still have dead #3 they claim they need to tear down the engine & take a look inside $$$$.
